Page Perry Partner Attends Securities Regulatory Conference In Wake Of Wall Street Collapse

From September 15 through September 17, 2008, Page Perry partner J. Steven Parker attended a conference sponsored by the North American Securities Administrators Association, an organization of state securities regulators.  Among the topics under discussion was a re-evaluation of the risk and reward relationship on Wall Street, with special focus on the improving of regulatory systems to avoid enterprise risk and systemic risk to the economy.  This panel discussion, which was attended by members of the private securities bar as well as federal and state securities and banking regulators, took place on the day following the announced bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the sale of Merrill Lynch to Bank of America.  On the following day, Mr. Parker also attended a panel discussion focusing on prospective securities industry regulation in light of the current Wall Street crisis.  That panel included input from potential policy makers or advisers to the political campaigns of both Senators John McCain and Barack Obama.

Mr. Parker also attended a briefing by members of the state regulators’ task force on auction-rate securities.  That task force is coordinating the enforcement efforts of twelve states against firms that sold action-rate securities to customers.  Finally, Mr. Parker also attended a briefing on current securities fraud and enforcement trends.
